Allison Island
Back to all Neighborhoods

Neighborhood Description

Allison Island is located inside the Indian Creek waterway of the La Gorce neighborhood. The island lies within the city limits of North Miami Beach. The island spans 8.5 acres and is divided by 63rd Street into a North Island and a South Island. Condos and townhouses fill the southern island also known as Aqua and northern island contains only waterfront homes. The waterfront homes are situated on oversized lots with contemporary and modern design with direct water access to Biscayne Bay. This makes the island a highly desirable location for perspective buyers.

The community is very peaceful and is gated with 24-hour security and connects directly to North Miami Beach by way of a bridge. The island features a fitness center, heated pools, jogging paths, art installations, children’s play center, and a neighborhood store. Everything you need from restaurants to shopping to beach access to spas, fitness centers and so much more is right by the islands. Allison Island has a great reputation for providing the utmost privacy and a serene luxury lifestyle with the backdrop of breathtaking water views and bay access.

The History of Allison Island:

Well-known American entrepreneur and real estate developer, Carl G. Fisher is responsible for transforming Allison Island from a swampy area overrun with alligators to the beautiful island we see today. His work began in 1912 as he created what is now Miami Beach and paid tribute to his business partner, Jim Allison by the naming of Allison Island. The island was not fully developed until 1926 beginning with the opening of a state-of-the-art hospital to serve homeowners on Miami Beach. The hospital was run by the Sisters of St. Francis in Allegany, New York, who had experience operating hospitals up north. After Allison’s death the hospital was sold to them in 1928 and then sold again in 1992 and eventually demolished. Craig Robins, an American entrepreneur and real estate developer went on to create a grand new vision for the island. Aqua of today’s Allison Island was finalized in 2003.
